Courtyard of Air and Arches

from $650.00

Photographed from above, this work looks into the interior geometry of Havana’s historic Palacio de los Capitanes. Arched colonnades, balustrades, and layered terraces create a measured sequence of lines, guiding the eye through the space with order and restraint.

Tall palms rise through the centre of the courtyard, introducing movement and softness against the stone. Their vertical rhythm breaks the symmetry just enough, allowing air, light, and shadow to circulate through the composition.

Light shapes this space as much as architecture. Open sky and distant fortifications introduce depth, while the enclosed square below holds a quieter, contained atmosphere. Structure and openness exist in balance here: repetition creates calm, while the air between levels allows the image to breathe.

At scale, this work brings architectural clarity and composure into an interior. It offers a sense of history held lightly: ordered, spacious, and grounded.

  • This artwork is released in a strictly limited edition of 100 and is accompanied by a signed certificate of authenticity noting its individual edition number. As editions progress, prices may increase as the series approaches completion.

  • Each work is available in three architectural scales. The right size depends on how you want the work to live within your space.

    Signature Large (60 × 90 cm)
Best suited to more intimate spaces, layered walls, and quieter moments. Ideal for bedrooms, studies, hallways, and areas where the work is discovered rather than announced.

    Statement (80 × 120 cm)
Designed to shape a room. This scale holds visual weight without overwhelming and is often chosen for living spaces, dining rooms, and primary walls.

    Collector (100 × 150 cm)
Architectural scale. A commanding work intended to anchor large or open-plan interiors, where presence, horizon, and proportion can fully unfold.

Each artwork is released as part of a single edition of 100. Scale affects presence, not rarity.

  • Each work is custom made to order in Australia.

Large-scale photographs are printed using archival pigment inks on museum-grade 310gsm cotton fine art paper with a smooth matte finish. This premium 100% cotton paper is chosen for its soft surface, rich tonal depth, crisp detail, and long-term stability - allowing the image to retain clarity, colour integrity, and presence over time.

Works are presented with a 5cm white border as part of the intended framing. Full-bleed prints can be arranged on request for specific project requirements.

As each work is made to order specifically for you, all sales are final once placed.

  • Framing
Framed presentation is the artist’s intended way to experience the work.

Frames are available in Black, White, or Tasmanian Oak. Each piece is professionally framed, sealed, and arrives ready to hang with D-hooks fitted.

    Unframed Works
Unframed editions are supplied rolled and should be handled with care. Professional framing using archival methods is recommended, with clean hands or cotton gloves used to protect the print surface.

For custom framing or project requirements, please contact studio@nikkimalvar.com
